I think the II also had a contrasting tip cap, but I may be mistaken. The Classic II had a shadowline cheekpiece on the left side of the buttstock, so if yours has that, it could be a Classic II. The stock appears to be a Vanguard Classic I style stock.

If it does, at least you now know what the VL in front of the serial number designates. The VL is for Vanguard Lightweight so check your barrel length to see if it measures 20". Chris Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt. JWDynamics Not sure of the specific model but it appears to be an early Vanguard since it has the South Gate marking. I would like to know the serial numbers for that one Thanks for the info I called and they told me it was a Series 2 with 3 pos safety and 2 stage trigger and simmons scope with a black series one stock made in for a special run for Academy sports.Toggle navigation Spike Camp. Sounds like a transitional model with features from both S1 and S2 maybe. I believe that dos said he had one with the old stock and a three position safety. Two position safety or three? When did you buy it roughly? Best wishes to all.

Does it have the griptonite stock or the old black synthetic, etc. Might search for Forged or forgery and find it. Yote slayer I phoned weatherby today and got the date for mine, really nice guy, here is the number 1 Jimmy G. I have a Weatherby Vanguard and would like to know when it was manufactured Success is not measured by material wealth, but rather by how many bodies you have buried no one knows about. Does anybody have a higher one, or an S1 that begins with the VB prefix? Your feedback will be appreciated. I have X'ed out the last three numbers, of course. What I would like to know is if anybody out there has a late S1 with a serial number that doesn't begin with VS. The numbers which I have seen on the S2 model have a VB prefix with a six digit serial. Indeed the S2 has a new serial range which helps us remember that. Actually I would like some feedback from members who have recently purchased one of the last S1 Vanguards.Īccording to our best information, the last S1 models had receivers made by machining from extruded bar stock. Vanguard serials I can hear the yawns already.
